In my last post, I talked about a better way to deal with JS-to-native communication and vice versa, without using PhoneGap and all of the bloat and issues that come with it. PhoneGap’s way of communicating with the native layer was trully bizantine. I won’t go into the details, but it’s worth saying that it was entirely too complicated. Unlike iOS, Android makes the JS-to-native communication ridiculously easy.

Couple months ago I was working on a SproutCore app for mobile phones – namely iPhone and Android. There is a slew of issues we ran into from performance to compatibility. One of such issues we encountered was integrating SproutCore with the PhoneGap library. Aside from not playing nice with SproutCore it also added unnecessary bloat to already quite heavy JS payload. I will write another post soon dealing specifically with performance issues.
